Hindu Council UK joins hands with other Organisations for the 'Stand up against terror' initiative"Millions of Brits urged to remember victims on 7/7 anniversary. As we mark 10 years since that terrible day, the #WalkTogether initiative is an opportunity to reflect on how Londoners came together in the face of this callous and nihilist ideology, through a simple act of remembrance.”

A call of arms has been issued urging millions of Brits to remember those who have lost their lives in terrorist atrocities.

It comes just days after 30 Brits are feared to have lost their lives as gunman Seiffedine Rezgui opened fire on a beach in Sousse, Tunisia.

The #WalkTogether initiative asks people all over the UK to get off the bus, train or tube one stop early on Tuesday, July 7, and walk together in a quiet moment of remembrance and unity.

It was inspired by the tragic scenes on London’s streets on July 7, 2005, when public transport closed down and thousands calmly walked home.

“As we mark 10 years since that terrible day, the #WalkTogether initiative is an opportunity to reflect on how Londoners came together in the face of this callous and nihilist ideology, through a simple act of remembrance.”

Mayor of London Boris Johnson has voiced his support for the initiative.

Mr Johnson said: “The 7/7 attacks were an appalling act of murder and we must never forget the 52 people who died, nor how it changed the lives of many more.

“As we mark 10 years since that terrible day, the #WalkTogether initiative is an opportunity to reflect on how Londoners came together in the face of this callous and nihilist ideology, through a simple act of remembrance.”

The initiative is supported by Faiths Forum for London, Hope Not Hate, Islamic Society of Britain, Faith Matters, Trust for London, The Big Iftar, British Humanist Association, St John Ambulance, New Horizons in British Islam, City Sikhs, Inspire, JW3 Jewish Community Centre London, Hindu Council UK, Armed Forces Muslim Forum and thinktank British Future.

INITIATIVE: The #WalkTogether initiative wants people to stand up to terrorism.

Imam Qari Asim of Leeds Makkah Masjid mosque, one of the faith leaders supporting #WalkTogether, said: “The terrible events in Tunisia make this new initiative, to stand side by side in the face of terrorism, more important than ever.

“When I heard the news from Tunisia on Friday I felt sick to my stomach that someone could commit such a terrible act, murdering so many innocent people.

“For Muslims, it’s particularly shocking that someone of our faith committed these appalling crimes.

“It’s important we say ‘do not claim you commit your murders in the name of our religion’. But it’s also important that we all work together if we are to defeat these people. It’s a challenge for Muslims but it’s not one for Muslims alone – it’s a challenge that we must all face together.”
