Program background:

The annual Birmingham 24-Hour Kirtan festival, now tag-lined ‘Sounds for the Soul’, is a lively, international celebration of spiritual music. Inspired by Indian Vedic tradition, the festival promotes the congregational chanting of sacred mantras, sung in a variety of beautiful melodies and accompanied by live instrumentation.

Mantra is a Sanskrit word composed of ‘Mana’ – the mind, and ‘trayate – to transcend’. Therefore mantra refers to an ancient word or sound which helps the mind to reach a higher consciousness. These days it’s become popular to call anything which is repeated over and over, a ‘mantra’. But a real mantra is a powerful sound vibration – sometimes compared to a key that opens a specific lock. When accompanied by music it is known as kirtan. Accompanying the mantra with music is a way to help us with the difficult task of focusing the mind and attaining real peace within the heart.

Program includes:

• Over 2000 people throughout the weekend.

• Meditational music for 24 hours non-stop

• Free Admission to general public and Food served throughout the weekend

• International event with international musicians
