Press release Revolutionary slaughter-free dairy launches appeal to raise funds to build new micro-dairy

Press release Revolutionary slaughter-free dairy launches appeal to raise funds to build new micro-dairyBritain’s first slaughter-free dairy, where no cow or bull calf is ever sent to the abattoir, has launched its #lovemilkhateslaughter campaign to raise funds to build its revolutionary new micro-dairy.

The Ahimsa Dairy Foundation’s campaign has been backed by Pretenders singer and activist Chrissie Hynde and Resurgence & Ecologist editor-in-chief Satish Kumar. See the video here: http://www.indiegogo.com/projects/love-milk-hate-slaughter/a1c1/898892

The Dairy has been gifted land at a peppercorn rent in Leicestershire and hopes to raise £30,000 in the first phase of its appeal to put up barns for its cows and buy dairy equipment. So far it has raised more than £15,000.

Supporters can give as little as £5, but already Kartik Kota and family, from Ilford in London has gifted £5,000 to adopt a cow and her calf whom they have named Bimba, for their new-born child.

Bull calves will be used to work the land as soon as they are old enough.

The not-for-profit company was established in 2010 and is operating in partnership with a large organic farm in Kent, which bred all of its cows and calves. However, after being gifted the land, it decided to run its own independent operation.

This will be the first step towards establishing a network of slaughter-free, micro-dairies around the UK, where all cows and bulls are allowed to live for all of their natural lives.

Ahimsa director Sanjay Tanna said:

“We were horrified by the cruelty involved in much of today’s modern dairy industry. Cows are killed years before their natural time and bull calves often before they are three days old.

“We wanted to show there was a more compassionate way of doing things that repaid the generosity of the cow for all of the good things she gives us. With the Ahimsa Dairy, cows and bulls live for all of their natural lives. That is why we are looking for support for our dairy revolution.”

Currently, the Ahimsa Dairy supplies slaughter-free milk, cheese, ghee and yoghurt by doorstep delivery to customers in parts of London and Hertfordshire.
