Newly published statistics show that ethnic minorities are severely under-represented in the top tiers of the corporate world and public sector, with figures at the lowest level in more than a decade*. It is ironic that this should be happening now given that the Census 2011 shows that ethnic minorities make up 14% of the population. At Diversity UK we would like to stop this reversal in progress. A truly free, democratic and liberal society – one that recruits on the basis of “merit, fairness and openness” – must consider how it reaches out to all sections of the its population.
Dilip Joshi, Chair of Diversity UKI am writing to ask for your help. Please complete our ‘Beyond the Glass Ceiling’ Public Appointments Survey“. It will only take a minute and is relevant whether you have applied for a public appointment or not. I would be grateful if can you also share this survey with your friends and professional networks. Early results are already showing the ethnic minorities are falling at the first hurdle in finding out about suitable opportunities and completing the application forms.
Who knows, perhaps one of the solutions might be to overcome these early barriers?
