Gurkha Hunger Strike at the MOD Building opposite 10 Downing Street

Gurkha Hunger Strike at the MOD Building opposite 10 Downing StreetRetd. Gurkha Gyanraj Rai is on his 15th day of the hunger strike demanding an adequate pension increase from a pitiful £260 per month to a liveable level of £1,000 per month.

The extra cost to the Exchequer would be under £10m per annum for the 12,000 veterans (pre-1997) for the number of years they live from now. It is a small cost to the people who sacrifice their lives for the Queen and the Country.

Shri Gyanraj Rai spoke to Anil Bhanot and said that he is only following his Dharma yet the MOD have jibed that he is an extremist. Anil Bhanot assured him that true to Dharma he is inflicting pain over his own body and not harming others to bring about a change for an equality for all, and he applauded his campaign as the Mahatma Gandhian Satyagrah, this is indeed Supreme Dharma.

Today the Conservative MP Rob Wilson has lent his support to this Gurkha cause and the APPG on Gurkha welfare are uniting to lobby this change.

Om Shanti Shanti Shanti !

After the MP’s intervention to look after the Gurkha’s welfare Shri Gyanraj Rai ended his strike this evening.
